Interesting Fact:
I go to Corfu, Greece, every second year to dance. I bring those dances back to our Edmonton/Camrose group and teach at a week-long summer retreat in August and throughout the year.

Interesting Fact:
Since immigrating to Canada, I have found that in the 1800s, distant relatives and family lived and worked in the hamlet of Bindloss, Alberta.

Interesting Fact:
I came to Canada with my family at the age of 12 not knowing much English. I lived in Montreal for three years and learned a little French. I moved to Edmonton, finished my studies, and got an amazing job at MOM, where I have improved my English a lot (still working on it, though!) and become more confident as a person by staying positive.

Albrecht Lang, Machine O Matic’s founder, is born in Germany.

1946
Erika Pinnecke-Schwan, Machine O Matic’s co-founder, is born in Germany.

1952
Erika and her family immigrate to Canada, crossing the Atlantic by ship.

1957
Albrecht (known to most as Al) begins his trade as a machinist in Germany at the age of 14.

1960
Al immigrates to Canada as a fully trained machinist.

1963
Al and Erika meet and develop a beautiful friendship.

1966
Al and Erika get married.

1973
Erika and Al have their first child, their daughter Belinda.

1974
Erika and Al have their second child, their son Kevin.

1976
Al ventures out of the machinist trade to try his hand at sales and returns to machining, his first love, three years later.

1980
Al and his brother start A&M Machining. Erika works in the company as the office manager.

1991
Al and Erika try a new venture and start Machine O Matic, focusing at first on the automatic transmission repair business and eventually re-strategizing to move into production machining.

1993
The company grows to nine employees and and expands the facility. Production machining is confirmed as the right move.

1995
With 15 employees, Machine O Matic develops a reputation for high-quality machining and timely delivery. The automatic transmission business is phased out in favour of production machining within the oil industry.
Al and Erika’s daughter Belinda graduates from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in psychology.

1996
Al and Erika’s son Kevin graduates from the University of Alberta with a degree in commerce and joins the family business full-time. Both Belinda and Kevin have been working part-time at the business since junior high school.

2001
Machine O Matic celebrates our 10-year anniversary.

2002
Belinda begins working full-time at Machine O Matic and also marries Jee Lee, her longtime beloved, in Mexico

2003
Machine O Matic goes through a rebrand with a new logo, website, and marketing strategy. We are starting to be known for small parts manufacturing and expand into new industries, including medicine, instrumentation, and sports and recreation.
Erika leads the Machine O Matic team through succession planning for a smooth retirement strategy and to ensure the long-term success of the company.

2005
Machine O Matic develops an overseas manufacturing strategy and starts outsourcing parts to China. We target 30 percent of total manufacturing to go into factories overseas to enable us to stay competitive in the global market.

2007
Kevin marries his longtime girlfriend, Allie Wiener, in New York City.

2008
The world recession is looming, but so far we’re still thriving. With a succession plan firmly in place, Al and Erika retire from Machine O Matic, leaving the company in the hands of their children Belinda and Kevin.

2009
The world recession is in full swing, and Machine O Matic feels the effects. We decide to pivot the company by investing in automation and eliminating the China outsourcing strategy. This saves jobs and still enables price competitiveness.
Al and Erika settle into retirement, occasionally dropping by to consult on important decisions.

2010
Our first fully automated production cell is in operation and is an overwhelming success.

2011
Business is booming and the automation strategy is paying off. We are outgrowing our space, so we make a deal on a new facility.

2011
Machine O Matic celebrates our 20 year anniversary.

2012
Our new facility undergoes a nine-month renovation into a modern 15,000-square-foot space with ample employee perks, a new QA room, and a top-of-the-line production floor. We move into the building in August and add a second fully automated production cell.

Chloe Lang is born to Kevin and Allie, and the family enjoys its first little one.

2013
After a rocky start with production volume, the year finishes off strong.

2014
Erika Lang loses a short battle with cancer and dies in April. It’s a hard year for the Lang family, but the business leans on the team and processes and comes out strong.

2015
World oil prices continue to plummet, and a few challenges may be in the future. We build the internal support team and continue to execute our strategies to ensure we’re ready for the future.

Machine O Matic celebrates Chris and his wife Rose becoming Canadian citizens.

Scarlet Lang is born to Kevin and Allie. The family enjoys its second little one.

2016
Machine O Matic celebrates our 25th anniversary. Times are challenging, but the team rallies together to stay lean and strong.

February 2017
Oskar Lang is born. The family enjoys its third little one.

2017
With his family living in Vancouver, Kevin decides to buy Ecomarine Paddlesport Centres and makes a permanent move to Vancouver.

Belinda and Chris lead the company out of tough times and into a new future. Jee comes on board to help with our sales efforts.

Chris celebrates 10 years at Machine O Matic by going to the Moto Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

2018
After 36 years, Al sells the family home and moves to Vancouver to be closer to his three grandchildren.

2018
Business grows, and so does our team. We buy a new CMM and surface testing equipment to support our customers and our commitment to quality. We also begin an agricultural ad campaign to stay local but spread our roots wide.

Belinda, Chris, and Jee go to the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago to continue exploring innovation and advances in manufacturing.

2019
We purchase a laser part marking machine and a Kastowin Band Saw to customize parts and increase productivity. A new Machine O Matic Toyota truck also comes on board.

2020
We renew our commitment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for our team. Our Safety First Program evolves to a more robust Health and Safety Program including extensive education and training.

2021
Machine O Matic celebrates our 30th anniversary. Our team is committed to seeing us through COVID 19 and moving forward. From Operations, Sales to Support and Administration, our people are the foundation and strength of our organization. We have worked together as a team to move into our 30th year of operation.
